My Life is Like a Country Song
Cars done wrecked, dryer's busted, my dog's is howling, my littlin' is a-running round the house, and my bourbon is runnin' low...sounds like a country song don't it?
But wait, what's this? It's ALL READY FREAKING SEPTEMBER!!! After 1,000 straight days of a heat index in the 200s down here in Jacksonville, a bit of cool hit the area over the weekend, and along with it came that glorious weekly menu of college football. This was one awesome opening weekend too. Let us count the ways quickly, and then proceed with the details:
Awesomeness
1) VIRGINIA TECH BEAT A D1AA OPPONENT!!!
2) Notre Dame is...I'm almost starting to feel sorry for Notre Dame fans
3) Georgia lost to Boise State WAY worse then Virginia Tech did last year, so that's something
4) Les Miles is setting up to perplex the nation again
5) Lane Kiffin almost lost at home to one of the worst Big 10 teams
SEC Insanity
Ok, I live in the heart of SEC country. I'm perfectly fine recognizing that a league that has been the source of the past 5 national champions is due a fair share of respect. I'm even happy to say that yes, Alabama and LSU, in all likelihood, are top five teams. But seriously folks, EIGHT freaking teams in the Top 25. So let's see what this weekend told us:
DAWGIN' IT: It would appear that this year, like pretty much every single year in the Mark Richt era, the Georgia Bulldogs were thought to be contenders and that, this year, like every single year in the Mark Richt era, they are not. Boise St. basically toyed with the Bulldogs in their own backyard. And they get South Carolina next week? I'm sure Spurrier isn't looking to make a statement early on. I'm sure it will be just fine Coach Richt. Don't you worry your pretty little head.
War Feable: Anyone watch Auburn come back late to score an exciting victory? Shades of last year's championship run - when the Tigers came from behind in 7 or 8 games (I don't remember). Did it remind you of the huge win over Bama? This one was one for the record books! Huh? Excuse me? OOooooohhhhh! It was Utah State. Nevermind. Auburn was most assuredly in the top 25 preseason rankings simply because the voters said "Well they ARE the defending national champs." Sorry Gene Chizeck (or however you spell it), it's going to be a long year on the Plains.
